I am Barun Podder, and I have completed my bachelor’s degree in fine arts, specializing in painting, from Bengal Fine Arts College Chadpara.
After completing my bachelor’s degree, I became engaged and nurtured my art practice with traditional mediums like clay. Soon, I became engaged with native craftsmen and their community, leading me to develop a ceramic workshop called “Jhap Art” in my residency area. Through this initiative, I reconnected with the local craftsmanship and collaborated on innovative processes to enhance the economy of the native demography. In an era where fast-growing industries are often concentrated in cosmopolitan areas, my approach aims to grow and enrich the cultural landscape of rural areas. I utilized the local ethnicity of pottery traditions and employed the process of using local soil at high temperatures to produce pottery and other art objects, addressing the ceramic industry’s struggle with insufficient supplies of stoneware and processed clay. My primary objective is to restore the cultural ethnicity of rural Bengal, disrupting the homogeneity and dilution of cultural industries.

In addition to my work in the entertainment industry, I conduct workshops and assist in projects like the Eco-Friendly Durga Idol Making in 2022, where I collaborated with children at Victoria Memorial Hall. I’ve also been part of theatre productions, such as “Binodini Opera,” where I assisted Sanchayan Ghosh as part of the background design team.
My participation in group exhibitions, such as “Grup Green Leaf” at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata in 2016 and 2017, as well as “Grup Display” at the ICCR Gallery in Kolkata in 2016, has provided me with opportunities to showcase my art within a broader artistic community.
my artistic journey is a fusion of traditional craftsmanship, contemporary innovation, and a steadfast commitment to preserving and enriching the cultural heritage of rural Bengal. Through my work, I aspire to challenge conventional norms, disrupt homogenized cultural industries, and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of the artistic landscape. My involvement in compelling film projects further allows me to breathe life into stories on the silver screen, bridging the worlds of art and cinema. As I continue to explore new horizons and collaborate with diverse communities, my artistic odyssey remains an ever-evolving exploration of creativity, tradition, and the endless possibilities of human expression.
